Ballet & Tech

Our classes teach students everything they need to know about ballet technique, terminology, body alignment, and posture. During class teachers will focus on multiple disciplines of ballet and give corrections on body position and movement. With regular practice and feedback from their teachers, students can build poise, strength, coordination, flexibility, and grace. Focus on injury prevention and strength building allows us to prioritize safe training for our dancers.

Tech class, short for technique class, focuses on the tricks and skills needed for all dance disciplines. Gearing to each individuals skill level these classes are the best way to learn new skills and improve others. This class will include jumps, turns, and flexibility skills such as tilts. Hand in hand with ballet, these classes are your foundation building classes you need to become the best you can be!

Jazz

Emerging at the turn of the 20th century, African American dancers began blending traditional African steps with European styles of movement, combining classical ballet and modern dance technique with contemporary influences. In these classes you can expect a strong emphasis on energy, rhythmic accuracy, style, and technique.

Lyrical

Strongly associated with clearly displayed emotional moods and illustration of song lyrics, these classes combine ballet technique with the additional freedom and musicality of other genres, such as jazz, acro and more.

Contemporary

Unlike other forms of dance, contemporary is not bound by set standards or defined styles, but rather an exploration of the total movement potential of the body. Classes will seek to express a personalized vision, often through experimentation, and derives techniques from both classical and modern dance, either updating or distorting them.

Tap

Originating through the fusion of several percussive dances (primarily West African sacred and secular step dances (gioube) and Scottish, Irish, and English clog dances, hornpipes, and jigs), these percussive and rhythmically complex classes, are characterized by shoes fitted with heel and toe taps sounds to create audible beats.

Hip-Hop

Hip Hop as a style of movement is characterized by bounces and rocks, executed to Hip Hop music. It has deep historical and social roots in African American culture, having emerged in Black communities living in 1970s New York.

Stage

This class works to create a theatrical performance. The story and emotional content of a musical – humor, pathos, love, anger – are communicated through the music, dance, and acting.

Acro

Different than other styles of dance in that it’s predominantly composed of acrobatic elements such as strength, flexibility, balance, contortion, tumbling, limbering, and sometimes partnering and lifts. The goal of an Acro dance routine would be to showcase these elements, braiding them with dance technique to add dynamics and fluidity.
